98th Grand Igloo Convention – Pioneers of Alaska
Island Terrific in the North Pacific
Kodiak, Alaska
September 24-27, 2014

February 2014

Dear Brother and Sister Pioneers:

You are cordially invited to attend the 98th Grand Igloo Convention in Kodiak from September 24 to September 27, 2014. The theme for our convention is 'Island Terrific in the North Pacific' which highlights the many aspects of life on our beautiful island; where past history of Alaska Natives, Russians and Americans contributed to present day life. All the outdoor activities you can imagine are enjoyed in the grand natural beauty of Kodiak, enriched by customs and traditions of the past and present generations.

The Business Sessions and the Grand Banquet will be held at the Kodiak Island Convention Center on the corner of Rezanof and Marine Way. Registration begins on Wednesday, September 24th, the Harborview Room at the Best Western Kodiak Inn. The luncheons, talent show and Grand Ball are scheduled for the Elks' Lodge, 102 Marine Way.

There are three hotels within walking distance of the convention center, the Kodiak Inn, Shelikof Lodge and the Russian Heritage Inn. There are also several bed and breakfasts in or near the downtown area, as well as a number located farther away if you prefer to rent a car and have a short commute. A listing of B&Bs is included on this page for your convenience.

Alaska Airlines is offering a special 7% discount rate for the convention. Please use the code ECMA176 to receive the discount; or call the Airlines Meeting Desk at 1-800-445-4435 and they will make your reservation with no ticketing fee. If you've had Kodiak on you 'bucket list' to visit and explore a bit, now would be an excellent chance. Take the ferry over, bring your car or camper; maybe as a group and stay a few days longer. Camp ground information is included in the information package; senior rates are available for the ferry. Go to www.Kodiak.org for more information.

We'd appreciate your donations of home-made foods for the mug ups. Anything on the order of cookies, cupcakes, coffee cakes and breakfast breads that do not need refrigeration would be most welcome.

If you have any questions concerning registration, please contact Louise Stutes at stutes@gci.net or call (907) 486-8757 or Cheryl Coonrod at hpravenmaster@gmail.com or call (907) 486-3345.

Sincerely,
